Why does pool equipment matter as much as the pool?
The equipment pad decides what a pool costs to run, how clean it stays and how much of your weekend it takes. An oversized single-speed pump burns electricity. An undersized filter clouds the water every July. A heater sized for the pool but not the spa leaves you waiting. Getting the pad right is engineering, not a catalog pick.

What is Poolside Tech pool automation?
The Attendant by Poolside Tech is a smart automation system that works with the equipment already on your pad, including Pentair, Hayward and Jandy. It runs pumps, heat, lights, water features and chemistry from one app, with no monthly subscription. J. Oliver Pools is an authorized Poolside Tech dealer and installer in New Braunfels, San Antonio and the Hill Country.

What equipment does a custom pool need?
Variable-speed pumps
The heart of the system. Sized to the plumbing and features, then programmed to run low and quiet most of the day.
Filtration
Cartridge, sand or DE, chosen by pool volume, tree cover and how much maintenance you want to do.
Heaters and heat pumps

Can you upgrade equipment on an existing pool?
Yes, and it is one of the most cost-effective upgrades an older pool can get. A loud pump, a rising electric bill, a heater that will not fire or water that never quite clears are all signs the pad is due. We replace and upgrade equipment on pools we did not build, across New Braunfels, San Antonio, Boerne and Canyon Lake.
Equipment work pairs well with a renovation or resurface, and with leak and plumbing repair while the pool is already down.

Which is better, Pentair, Hayward or Jandy?+
All three make reliable pumps, heaters, lighting and automation. As an authorized dealer for each, we recommend by fit: the pool size, the features you run, the automation app you prefer and what is already on the pad, rather than defaulting to one brand.
Can you add automation to an older pool?+
Usually, yes. Pentair IntelliCenter, Hayward OmniLogic and Jandy iAquaLink can be added to most existing pools, often alongside a variable-speed pump and LED lights, so pump schedules, heat, lights and spa run from your phone.
Can my pool lights sync to Spotify?+
Yes, with Poolside Tech. The Attendant syncs compatible pool and spa lights to a Spotify playlist, and works alongside Pentair, Hayward and Jandy equipment. We are an authorized Poolside Tech dealer and install it on new and existing pools.
Are variable-speed pool pumps worth it?+
In most cases. A variable-speed pump runs at lower speeds for most of the day, which uses much less electricity and runs quieter than an older single-speed pump. Federal efficiency rules have required variable-speed models for most pool pump installations since 2021.
Do you replace equipment on pools you did not build?+
Yes. We replace and upgrade pumps, filters, heaters, salt systems, lighting and automation on existing pools throughout New Braunfels, San Antonio, Boerne, Bulverde and Canyon Lake, often as part of a renovation or resurface.
Is pool equipment covered by warranty?+
Equipment carries the manufacturer warranty from Pentair, Hayward or Jandy, registered at installation, plus our workmanship warranty on the install. See our warranty details.
